1849–1948
Founding mark
Founded in 1849 as Charles Pfizer and Co., the company's earliest mark was an ornate circular seal with stylized linked initials and dense interior text, consistent with the formal corporate emblems common in Victorian-era commerce.

1948–1950
Globe introduction
Nearing its centennial, Pfizer introduced a globe motif with longitude and latitude lines to signal international reach, and used color for the first time. The wordmark moved to a cleaner, sans-serif style alongside the rounded emblem.
1950–1989
Solid oval
Within two years of the globe debut, the latitude and longitude lines were stripped away, leaving a solid oval with white lettering on a flat blue field. Blue became the company's established corporate color from this point forward.

Extended F
A 1989 update extended the lowercase "f" beyond the boundary of the oval, giving the mark a more open, fluid quality. The oval was made slightly taller in proportion and the blue was lightened, while the remaining letterforms were simplified.
2009–2021
Tilted oval
Siegel+Gale reoriented the oval on a diagonal axis in 2009, adding a light-to-dark blue gradient and thinning the letterforms. The studio described the change as signaling forward momentum and a departure from the company's earlier identity.

Double helix
On January 5, 2021, New York agency Team Design eliminated the oval entirely and introduced a double helix motif derived from the company's longstanding pill shape, referencing DNA and biotechnology research. Custom lettering was developed by MCKL, and the two-tone blue palette returned after decades of single-color use.
