Founding wordmark
Advanced Micro Devices launched in May 1969 with a logotype pairing the two-arrow emblem alongside the company's full name in uppercase letters. The arrow device, formed by two mirrored diagonal arrows, referenced movement and progress while fitting the visual conventions of other Santa Clara-area semiconductor firms of the era.

Slim arrow variant
A narrower, lighter rendering of the arrow mark appeared on AMD chip packages through the 1980s, most visibly on Am8086 variants produced under license from Intel. The slimmer stroke weight distinguished component-level marking from corporate stationery without changing the underlying symbol.

Green became the primary brand colour during this period, distinguishing AMD visually from Intel's blue-heavy palette across retail processor packaging and advertising.

Red arrow wordmark
AMD shifted to red as its primary brand colour in 2013, retiring the green that had defined the previous 18 years. The arrow emblem and Gill Sans-derived wordmark were retained but the colour swap aligned AMD more closely with its GPU-centric positioning and the Radeon sub-brand's existing red identity.
