1989–1991
Launch
CNBC launched on April 17, 1989 as a cable business news channel, using a simple wordmark without any NBC peacock affiliation visible in the on-screen identity. The original logotype had a compact, utilitarian character suited to the channel's debut.
1991–1992
CNBC/FNN
After acquiring rival Financial News Network in May 1991, the channel temporarily rebranded as CNBC/FNN to retain that outlet's audience. The transitional mark combined both names, a short-lived acknowledgment of the merger before a unified identity took over.
1994–1996
Bookseller era
A February 1994 update introduced lettering based on Bookseller Bk Reduced Bold Italic, giving the wordmark a more energetic, forward-leaning stance. The design moved away from the neutral geometrics of earlier versions toward a typeface with stronger visual personality.

Peacock integration
On May 12, 1996, CNBC added the NBC peacock to its logo, explicitly marking its relationship with the parent network. Set in Univers 94 Extended Extra Black, this identity ran for 27 years and became the channel's most recognized mark.
2023–2025
NBC Tinker Pro
December 10, 2023 brought CNBC's first redesign in over two decades, adopting the revised NBC peacock and the corporate typeface NBC Tinker Pro. The wordmark shifted from black to dark blue, aligning the channel with the broader NBCUniversal rebrand rolled out across NBC and MSNBC in 2022 and 2023.
2025–present · current
Versant era
Designed by Loyalkaspar
When NBCUniversal spun its cable channels into the new company Versant in 2025, CNBC could no longer use NBC's peacock or branding assets. Loyalkaspar designed a replacement identity revealed December 4, 2025 and officially launched December 13, built on a modified Gotham Bold wordmark with a new proprietary symbol.
