1933–1984
Original Crocodile
Designed by Robert George
Drawn by designer Robert George in 1927, the crocodile emblem was embroidered onto René Lacoste's blazers before the brand launched in 1933. The original mark featured a highly detailed, naturalistic reptile in mid-stride with an open mouth, rendered with gradient shading that gave it a vivid, three-dimensional quality.
1984–2002
Simplified Crocodile
A major overhaul in 1984 stripped away the naturalistic detail in favor of a flatter, more graphic silhouette that could be embroidered reliably at small sizes across garments and accessories. The redesign also introduced the Lacoste wordmark set beneath the crocodile, establishing the stacked logo lockup used for decades.

Sans-Serif Wordmark
In 2002, Lacoste refined the crocodile silhouette further, reducing decorative embellishments, and paired it with a blocky uppercase sans-serif wordmark. The letters were spaced more generously, and a monochrome version was introduced alongside the standard green colorway.
2011–2026
Refined Sans-Serif
The 2011 update thinned the wordmark's letterforms, replacing the blocky cuts with a stricter, lighter sans-serif that read as more contemporary without departing from the established lockup. The crocodile was also slightly reduced relative to the text, shifting visual weight toward the typographic element.

Heritage Serif Revival
Designed by Commission Studio
Developed with London-based Commission Studio and unveiled in April 2026, the redesign replaced the longstanding sans-serif with a bespoke condensed serif drawn from the brand's own archives. The crocodile was updated with a deeper green tone and the restoration of its red tongue, referencing the original Robert George drawing.
