Four Ms abstract mark
Designed by Don Ervin, Sandgren & Murtha
Don Ervin at the New York firm Sandgren & Murtha designed this abstract symbol of four radiating Ms joined at their free ends, creating an eight-pointed star in the negative space. The form referenced MetLife's earlier tower emblem and its slogan "The Light That Never Fails."
1967–1990
Helvetica wordmark
MetLife adopted a straightforward wordmark set in Helvetica Bold with tight letter spacing, departing from the abstract symbol for a cleaner corporate presentation. The mark remained on the facade of the MetLife Building in Midtown Manhattan until 2017.

The typeface remained Helvetica but the presentation was updated to accompany the character-driven advertising campaign.
1997–2016
Futura Bold wordmark
As the company formally shortened its public name to MetLife, the wordmark shifted from Helvetica to Futura Bold and moved to a solid blue from its earlier black treatment. Young and Rubicam, the advertising agency then working with MetLife, was associated with this rebranding effort.

Prophet rebrand
Designed by Prophet
Brand consultancy Prophet led the most extensive overhaul in MetLife's history, replacing Snoopy with a blue-and-green stylized M monogram and setting the wordmark in Effra Bold. The new mark was explained by Prophet's Craig Stout as two pieces coming together to form a partnership symbol.
