1968–1981
Script wordmark
Western Union introduced a stylized script wordmark in 1968, rendered in a flowing all-lowercase form that reflected the graphic design conventions of the era. The design gave the company a warmer, more approachable appearance during a period when it was still primarily known for telegram services.
1981–1988
Bold serif wordmark
A heavier, more structured wordmark replaced the script in the early 1980s, using a bold serif type treatment that emphasized institutional weight. The change coincided with Western Union's expansion into financial and telecommunications services beyond its telegram origins.

Lippincott & Margulies redesigned the identity in October 1988, inverting the palette to black with yellow accents and setting the wordmark in Univers, a neo-grotesque sans-serif. Two vertical yellow bars flanking the name became the signature device, signaling the company's pivot toward financial services and away from telegraph communications.
2013–2019
WU monogram introduction
A WU monogram in overlapping yellow letterforms on black was introduced in February 2013, adding a compact symbol alongside the wordmark for the first time. The update retained Univers and the established black-and-yellow palette while giving the brand a more distinctive mark suited to digital applications.
2019–2023
Euclid Flex wordmark
Soft-launched in November 2018 and officially adopted on January 2, 2019, the identity shifted to Euclid Flex, a geometric sans-serif, and dropped the long-standing two-bar device. The cleaner, more minimal result was aimed at reinforcing Western Union's positioning as a digital money-transfer platform rather than a legacy wire service.

Love Street monogram
Designed by Love Street & Company
Love Street & Company unveiled a new WU monogram on January 9, 2023, replacing the geometric letterforms with a mark that combines calligraphic curves and multi-directional angles. The symbol, designed by Darrin Crescenzi among others, was intended to represent movement and the company's global network of physical and digital transfer points.
