1910–1915
A.L.F.A. Founding Badge
Founded on 24 June 1910 as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, the company adopted a circular badge combining two Milanese heraldic symbols: the red cross of the city and the Visconti biscione, a crowned serpent devouring a figure. Both devices trace to medieval civic and dynastic emblems of Milan.

1915–1925
Alfa-Romeo Rename
When Nicola Romeo acquired the company in 1915, the name changed to Alfa-Romeo and the badge was updated to read "Alfa-Romeo Milano," reflecting the new owner and the city of origin. The circular format and heraldic imagery were retained.

The wreath directly references that racing heritage and remained a fixture of the badge for nearly five decades.

1971–1972
Milano Removed
In 1971, the word "Milano" was removed from the badge as the company expanded beyond its regional identity into a broader international market. The change acknowledged Alfa Romeo's status as a national brand rather than a city-specific manufacturer.
1972–2000
Simplified Flat Badge
A simplified, flat version of the badge was adopted in 1972, with cleaner heraldic detailing and reduced typographic ornamentation. This version became the most widely recognized form of the mark through the brand's major road car expansion of the 1970s and 1980s.
2000–2015
Three-Dimensional Badge
At the turn of the millennium, the badge received a three-dimensional, chrome-effect rendering that became standard across the model range. The sculpted form followed automotive industry trends of that era, with the heraldic elements given depth and metallic shading.

Current Badge
Designed by Fabio Milito
Introduced on 24 June 2015 to mark the brand's 105th anniversary, the redesign returned to a flat, graphic interpretation of the historic badge. The Visconti biscione was redrawn with finer detail, the typeface was refined, and a simplified outline replaced the dimensional chrome treatment of the previous decades.
