Baracca Prancing Horse
The prancing horse silhouette originated with the heraldic emblem of World War I ace Francesco Baracca, whose family gave Enzo Ferrari permission to display it on his racing cars at Savio in 1923. This earliest shield version placed the black horse on a yellow ground, the color of Ferrari's home city of Modena.

1947–1951
Postwar Emblem
Ferrari S.p.A. was formally incorporated in 1947, and the emblem adopted at that time reflected the company's transition from a racing sponsor to an independent manufacturer. A tricolor stripe representing the Italian flag was added above the horse, marking the marque's national identity as it entered road car production.

This version of the shield settled into the form that would define Ferrari's public face for three decades, carrying the marque through its most celebrated Formula One era. The proportions were regularized and the horse rendered with greater clarity, giving the badge the weight appropriate to a manufacturer winning championships through the 1950s and 1960s.

1981–1994
Refined Shield
A refinement in the early 1980s adjusted the shield geometry and tightened the horse figure, aligning the emblem with the cleaner graphic standards that accompanied Ferrari's expansion into wider road car markets. The yellow ground remained a constant, distinguishing the badge from the red livery of the cars.
1994–2002
Pre-Modern Mark
The mid-1990s version introduced subtly modernized linework on the horse and shield border while keeping the established layout intact. It appeared on vehicles through Ferrari's return to Formula One dominance under the Schumacher era, and was rendered in both embossed metal and flat print applications.

Current Mark
The current emblem standardizes the shield and horse across digital and physical media, with consistent proportions suited to both small-scale car badges and large-format signage. Minor adjustments to the horse's stance and the typographic treatment of the Ferrari name below the shield distinguish it from earlier versions.
