1899–1903
Founding wordmark
Founded in Turin on July 11, 1899 by Giovanni Agnelli, the company adopted the full name Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili Torino, abbreviated FIAT, as its mark. The plain letterpress wordmark reflected the industry convention of the era, before the company developed a distinct badge identity.
1921–1925
Laurel roundel
A circular badge framed in laurel leaves replaced the earlier oval, placing the FIAT name in red at the center. The roundel form signaled a shift toward the decorative enamel badges common across European automobile marques of the 1920s.
1938–1959
Shield badge
Departing from the circular roundel, Fiat adopted a shield-shaped badge in 1938, tapering to a point at the bottom. The form was meant to convey strength and solidity, and it ran through some of the brand's most significant postwar models.

Rhombus mark
A stark rhombus replaced all previous decorative badges, reducing the identity to four slanted parallelograms separated by thin chrome tracks. The geometric wordmark was used in modular clusters alongside model names and remained the corporate symbol until 2006, outlasting its role as a car badge by several years.
2006–2022
Heritage roundel
A circular badge returned in 2006, drawing on the proportions and letterspacing of the 1959 rectangular logo while reintroducing the laurel-wreath ring of the 1920s marks. The design continued through the formation of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2014 and began phasing out on new models in 2022.
2020–present · current
Flat wordmark
Introduced alongside the electric 500 in 2020, the current mark strips the roundel entirely, presenting the name in a single flat wordmark with regularized letterforms. The identity rolled out first in Latin America, where Ana Couto Branding developed the broader brand system, before being adopted globally.
