1947–1960s
Founding mark
François Salomon launched the company in Annecy, France, producing ski edges. The original logotype paired a bold, geometric serif 'S' with dense lettering and ornamental elements typical of postwar alpine trade marks.

1960s–1976
S-in-square
As Georges Salomon expanded the company into ski bindings, the mark was stripped down to a white geometric 'S' set inside a solid black square. The reduction signaled a shift toward a single, reproducible symbol that could travel across equipment, apparel, and signage.

1976–1996
Refined wordmark
The 1976 version refined the wordmark beneath the square icon, adjusting letterform weight and spacing as Salomon grew into ski boots, ski bindings, and Nordic equipment. The black square with its 'S' remained the constant anchor across product lines for two decades.

Neville Brody era
Designed by Neville Brody
Brody replaced the 'S' monogram entirely for the first time in Salomon's history, substituting a swirling abstract symbol intended to evoke snow and natural motion. The angular, slanted wordmark he designed for this period was later cited by the 2022 team as a direct typographic reference.
2012–2022
Planning Unit rebrand
Designed by Planning Unit
London studio Planning Unit was appointed in 2011 to consolidate what had become a fragmented system of discipline-specific logos. The result brought back the 'S' inside a rounded black square, simplified for a single cross-sport mark used across alpine skiing, trail running, and mountain apparel.

Tomorrow Is Yours
The current identity, developed by Salomon's creative director Hugo Hoppmann with snowboarder David Benedek and typographer Ricardo Ferrol, reinterprets Neville Brody's 1990s letterforms in a new wordmark and updated 'S' monogram, released in tandem with the 'Tomorrow Is Yours' campaign.
