1923–1954
Early Wordmark
The 1930s mark presented the Wells Fargo name in a tightly spaced serif typeface, without any stagecoach illustration. Text-only treatment was common among Western financial institutions of the era, conveying solidity through letterform weight alone.

1954–1960
1950s Script
A mid-century redesign introduced a more fluid treatment of the logotype, reflecting the decorative lettering trends prevalent in American commercial graphics of the 1950s. The stagecoach heritage remained absent from the primary mark during this period.

<img src="https://img.logo.dev/wellsfargo.com?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" alt="wellsfargo.com logo" />After Wells Fargo American Trust reverted to the Wells Fargo Bank name in 1962, Landor Associates redesigned the identity around a rotated diamond enclosing a stagecoach silhouette. The geometric mark signaled a modernizing institution while retaining the historical coach as the primary symbol.

1986–1996
Red and Gold
The mid-1980s update established the red and gold color palette that would define Wells Fargo's visual identity for decades. A stagecoach illustration was rendered in a more detailed, painterly style and placed prominently within the horizontal lockup.
1996–2019
Square Lockup
The 1996 revision introduced a bold red square enclosing the yellow wordmark, with the stagecoach and horses pulled into a separate companion mark. The identity survived the 1998 Norwest merger and the 2008 Wachovia acquisition without alteration, reflecting the strength of the stagecoach symbol as a unifying element.

Siegel+Gale Refresh
Designed by Siegel+Gale
Siegel+Gale redesigned the Wells Fargo identity in January 2019, simplifying the stagecoach into a fluid yellow form and introducing custom typefaces, Wells Fargo Sans and Wells Fargo Serif. The update followed a period of regulatory scandals and aimed to project transparency and forward movement.
