1923–1963
Nordstrom's
After opening a second Seattle location in 1923, the shoe retailer traded as Nordstrom's, with the possessive form appearing in its signage and labels. The letterforms carried the informal, proprietorial quality common to mid-century specialty retailers.

1963–1973
Nordstrom Best
Following the 1963 acquisition of Best's Apparel, the company rebranded as Nordstrom Best to signal its expansion beyond footwear into full-line clothing. The combined name was retired when the company renamed itself Nordstrom, Inc. in 1973.

1973–1991
Lowercase wordmark
With the formal renaming to Nordstrom, Inc. in 1973, the company adopted an all-lowercase sans-serif wordmark that aligned with the modernist retail branding dominant in the period. The uniform weight and minimal styling moved the mark away from the proprietorial warmth of earlier identities.

Tim Girvin custom caps
Designed by Tim Girvin Design
Seattle-based Tim Girvin Design created a custom alphabet for Nordstrom, drawing on the proportions of Greco-Roman lettering in a manner similar to Hermann Zapf's Optima. The resulting all-caps wordmark served as the foundation of a 25-year brand identity program that extended to packaging, environmental signage, and retail graphics.
2019–present · current
Current wordmark
Introduced in August 2019, the revised wordmark tightened the letterfit and shifted to a heavier weight, giving the all-caps logotype a more compressed, graphic presence suited to digital surfaces and large-format retail environments.
