History
1920–1930
First mark
The original Boeing seal carried an ornate shield with outstretched wings framing the company name. Detail-heavy and heraldic in character, it suited formal documents more than aircraft livery.
1940–1948
Wartime logotype
A condensed, uppercase serif logotype replaced earlier marks during the Second World War. The type-only treatment reflected the era's stripped production pace and appeared across factory signage and military contracts.
1948–1997
Boeing wordmark
The 1948 redesign settled on a clean italic sans-serif in blue, giving the company a modern industrial face that would stay recognizable for nearly fifty years. Versions of this wordmark still appear alongside the symbol today.
