Original box
Dropbox launched with a three-dimensional, gradient blue open-box icon paired with a bold wordmark in title case. The skeuomorphic illustration reflected design conventions of the era, when detailed textures and depth cues were standard across consumer software.
2013–2017
Flat redesign
Adopting the flat design movement that swept the industry alongside Apple's iOS 7 release, Dropbox replaced its gradient icon with five solid geometric rhomboids in a single blue, arranged to suggest an open box. The wordmark shifted to a lowercase, sans-serif treatment.
