1892–1899
Victorian monogram
Formed in 1892 from the merger of Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston Electric, the company adopted an ornate interlocking "GE" monogram reflecting Victorian typographic tastes. The designer's identity remains disputed, with competing claims pointing to catalog department employee Arthur L. Rich, draftsman Sven Stalberg, and Stalberg's colleague Charles Kelley.
1899–1969
Circle monogram
Around 1899 the monogram was enclosed in a circular frame with leaflike ornamental elements, giving the mark the basic structure it would carry for over a century. Minor refinements in 1909 adjusted stroke weights and the decorative ring, but the overall composition stayed consistent for six decades.

A 1969 revision thickened the letter strokes and simplified the decorative dingbats around the ring, bringing the monogram in line with the bolder graphic sensibility of mid-century corporate identity. The updated mark remained in use on some products well past 1987.
1987–2004
Good things refinement
In 1987, the monogram received a subtle refinement timed to the launch of the "We Bring Good Things to Life" advertising campaign. The black-and-white palette was retained, with minor adjustments to letter spacing and ring weight to improve legibility at smaller sizes.

Blue monogram
Designed by Wolff Olins
In July 2004, Wolff Olins redesigned the mark in a signature blue, retiring the long-standing black-and-white palette alongside the shift in company tagline from "We Bring Good Things to Life" to "Imagination at Work." Following GE's breakup into three independent companies, the surviving entity, GE Aerospace, adopted "atmosphere blue" as its brand color in 2024.
