1985–1986
Founding wordmark
Ryanair launched in 1985 as a small regional carrier on the Dublin–London Gatwick route. The original logotype was a straightforward serif-style treatment, reflecting the modest scale of the airline before its low-cost pivot.
1986–1991
Script wordmark
A stylized script logotype replaced the founding mark as the airline expanded its route network across Ireland and Britain. The flowing lettering echoed the informal, accessible character the carrier sought to project during rapid early growth.
1994–2001
Blue wordmark
After adopting the Southwest Airlines low-cost model in 1991, Ryanair stabilized with a cleaner blue wordmark that signaled greater corporate confidence. The sans-serif construction moved away from the earlier script and aligned with a period of significant fleet and route expansion.
2001–2013
Yellow and blue
A high-contrast yellow-and-navy palette introduced in 2001 sharpened Ryanair's visual presence on airport signage and aircraft livery. The bold color combination reinforced the no-frills, high-visibility positioning the airline had built through aggressive pricing.
2013–present · current
Harp and navy
The 2013 rebrand introduced a navy wordmark paired with the Irish harp, drawn from the Kingdom of Ireland's Royal Standard used between 1542 and 1801. The mark accompanied Ryanair's 'Always Getting Better' customer experience program and a shift toward a more conventional airline identity.
