1955–1976
Original Script
Procter and Gamble launched Crest toothpaste in 1955 with a logotype featuring hand-lettered script set against a blue and white crest shield. The mark was designed to convey clinical credibility after the American Dental Association's endorsement in 1960.
1976–1988
Italic Wordmark
A simplified italic wordmark replaced the earlier shield-heavy design, dropping ornate detail in favor of a cleaner typographic treatment. The blue color carried over, maintaining continuity with the brand's established dental-care associations.
1997–2005
Striped Oval
Crest adopted an oval badge with striped color bands and a modernized sans-serif wordmark, reflecting the brand's expansion into whitening and specialty dental products. The oval shape differentiated Crest on shelf from competitors using rectangular or rectangular-crest formats.
