1965–1971
Double D origin
Dolby adopted the interlocking double-D mark at the company's founding in 1965, set in modified Helvetica Medium. The emblem appeared on noise-reduction hardware and professional studio equipment before the consumer era of Dolby technology began.
1971–2003
Eurostile wordmark
A wordmark in Eurostile Bold was introduced in 1971, first appearing in the credits of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, the first theatrical film to use Dolby noise reduction. The typeface gave the brand a geometric, technical character that matched its position as a professional audio standard.
2003–2007
Refined Eurostile
A refined version of the Eurostile mark debuted theatrically with Finding Nemo in 2003, bringing updated proportions to the wordmark while retaining the same typeface and separated double-D icon. The update modernized the form without departing from the established visual system.

Connected Double D
Designed by Turner Duckworth
Turner Duckworth redesigned the mark in 2007, connecting the two D-shapes into a single continuous form and pairing it with a custom wordmark based on Monda Bold. The gap between the letters was closed to create a more unified symbol suited to digital and cinema applications.

Experience brand
Dolby's in-house Studio A|D team unveiled a new identity in September 2019, tied to the launch of Dolby Atmos Music on Amazon Echo Studio. The redesign simplified the double-D to a bolder, high-contrast shape and introduced Avenir Next LT Pro as the corporate typeface, reflecting a shift from B2B supplier to consumer-facing audio brand.
