In April 1989, the company introduced a separate corporate mark using the shortened name FedEx while retaining the Federal Express wordmark for its Express division. This split identity ran in parallel for several years as the brand tested broader use of its popular abbreviation.

The design uses Futura Bold with a modified letterform: the negative space between the capital E and lowercase x forms a rightward arrow, embedding a symbol of motion without adding a separate graphic element.

2016 refresh
A 2016 update adjusted the weight and proportions of the arrow logo, refining the letterforms for improved legibility across digital surfaces and smaller applications. The hidden-arrow device and two-color scheme remained intact.

Current
The 2020 mark further simplified the corporate identity, consolidating the FedEx wordmark across divisions. Color assignments shifted to a single purple-and-orange combination at the parent level, with subsidiary brands carrying their own accent colors.
