Founding wordmark
Frank Seiberling founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio in 1898, naming it after Charles Goodyear, who developed the vulcanization process. The early wordmark used spaced, serif lettering presented in two words: 'Good Year.'

1917–1931
Consolidated script
The company merged 'Good Year' into a single word and adopted a more condensed, upright letterform. Variant treatments during this period included semi-solid and solid-black renderings of the wordmark across different markets.

1932–1938
Rounded letterforms
A refined wordmark introduced softer, more rounded letterforms alongside a heavier stroke weight. The change aligned the mark with broader 1930s commercial lettering trends and improved legibility at small sizes on tire sidewalls.

1939–1967
Diamond badge
This era introduced a diamond-shaped badge enclosing the wordmark, giving Goodyear a more structured, emblem-style identity suited to signage and print advertising. The letter shadowing seen in some period ads was an alternate application, not the primary mark.
1968–2024
Wingfoot wordmark
A major overhaul replaced the badge system with a clean blue wordmark accompanied by the Wingfoot symbol, drawn from the winged sandal of the Roman god Mercury. This mark remained in use for over five decades, appearing across racing sponsorships, blimps, and retail signage worldwide.
2025–present · current
Wingfoot Sans
Launched November 3, 2025, the rebrand introduced Wingfoot Sans, a custom typeface developed for Goodyear. The updated identity modernized the letterforms while retaining the Wingfoot mark, providing a consistent system across digital and physical surfaces.
