Founding Mark
Eugène Schueller registered his hair-dye company in 1909, and its earliest mark set the brand name inside a dark oval frame with ornate lettering typical of Belle Époque commercial printing. The decorative enclosure distinguished the product on pharmacy shelves where script and embellishment were standard signifiers of quality.

1911–1914
Bold Letterform
A 1911 revision thickened the letterforms and rounded their contours, dropping the oval enclosure for a free-standing wordmark. The protruding leg of the R was shortened to sit flush with the baseline, producing a more uniform block of type suited to print reproduction.

This version held for nearly five decades as the company expanded across Europe and into mass-market distribution.

Modern Wordmark
The 1962 redesign refined the wordmark to a slender, even-weight sans-serif with the L and O set slightly larger than the remaining letters. Accent marks were simplified to minimal geometric shapes, and the overall composition has remained essentially unchanged since, spanning print, broadcast, and digital contexts for over sixty years.
