1948–1952
First mark
George Jenkins debuted Publix's first distinct logotype in May 1948, coinciding with the chain's expansion beyond its Winter Haven, Florida origins. The hand-lettered mark established a script sensibility that would influence the brand's visual identity for decades.

1952–1958
Futura Italic
Adopted in September 1952, this version set the name in a bold italic typeface drawing on Futura's geometric forms. The shift from the earlier script to a structured sans-serif reflected a modernizing retail aesthetic common among American supermarket chains in the postwar period.
1958–1972
Venus Extended
Introduced in February 1958, the wordmark moved to Venus Extended, a wide grotesque typeface that gave the name a stable, horizontal presence suited to storefront signage. This version remained in use for fourteen years, the longest uninterrupted run of any pre-1972 mark.

Blippo wordmark
A comprehensive identity overhaul in November 1972 introduced Blippo, a rounded display typeface that replaced the hard-edged grotesque. Set in green and accompanied by a standalone stylized 'P' symbol, the system unified storefronts, bags, and uniforms across a rapidly growing Southeast footprint.

Refined Blippo
In March 2003, Publix updated the Blippo-based wordmark with refined letterform proportions and adjusted spacing while preserving the typeface and green color established in 1972. The standalone 'P' symbol continued independently, extending the identity system's life alongside the updated logotype.
