Founding mark
Jon Oringer launched Shutterstock in 2003 with a dark green camera emblem paired with a lowercase sans-serif wordmark on a black banner. The mark reflected the site's origins as a personal photo archive turned subscription service, with no professional design agency involved.
2012–2025
Viewfinder
Designed by Lippincott
Ahead of its 2012 IPO, Shutterstock worked with Lippincott to build a professional brand identity. The firm set the wordmark in a modified Uni Sans SemiBold and styled the letter O as a viewfinder reticle, with red and grey chosen to signal energy and creative neutrality across the company's expanding marketplace.
