2004
Founding wordmark
Squarespace launched in January 2004 with a simple logotype and tagline set in a lightweight sans-serif. The early mark reflected the startup's lean, browser-built origins before any formal design investment.

2004–2005
Block wordmark
A June 2004 update introduced a geometric icon alongside a heavier, blocky wordmark. The pairing gave the brand a more structured presence as the platform moved beyond its beta phase.

2006–2008
White wordmark
By May 2006 the wordmark had been simplified to a fully white treatment, dropping the earlier gradient tones. The slogan repositioned to the right, settling into a layout that held through two years of site updates.

2008–2009
Greyscale gradient
A July 2008 revision dropped the slogan entirely and applied a greyscale gradient to the mark, giving it a more polished, product-grade appearance. The wordmark received subtle letter-spacing refinements at the same time.
2009–2018
Rounded square symbol
A February 2009 site overhaul brought a cleaner symbol with rounded corners paired with a refined wordmark. The system remained the public face of Squarespace through nearly a decade of rapid growth and television advertising.

DIA kinetic identity
Designed by DIA Studio
Launched on 3 December 2018, the identity by Brooklyn studio DIA replaced the rounded symbol with a sharp-cornered mark and introduced Clarkson, a custom typeface developed with Optimo Foundry and named after the address of Squarespace's New York headquarters. The system is built around motion, using a generative kinetic treatment to reinforce the two syllables of the brand name across digital and physical applications.
