Launch wordmark
Ryan Finley founded SurveyMonkey in 1999, and the initial logo reflected the low-budget web aesthetics of the period: a simple text treatment with a cartoon monkey illustration. The mark leaned on novelty and friendliness to differentiate the service from the spreadsheet-and-email survey workflows it was replacing.

2001–2010
Refined monkey mark
A 2001 update refined the monkey character and wordmark, giving the illustration more polish while keeping the same approachable personality. The company retained the monkey as a central device through its growth from a free tool into a subscription business serving millions of users.

After a series of acquisitions and a push into the enterprise market, SurveyMonkey introduced a cleaner green wordmark around 2010 that moved away from the earlier illustrated character. The shift signaled a more professional positioning as the company pursued larger business customers alongside its consumer base.

Modern mark
A 2017 rebrand updated the logotype with a contemporary sans-serif treatment and adjusted color palette, coinciding with the company's renewed focus on enterprise growth and its eventual public listing. The monkey character was retained but rendered in a more geometric, simplified style suited to digital product contexts.
