2010–2011
Founding mark
Udemy launched with a simple wordmark in its earliest months as an online course marketplace. The design was utilitarian, reflecting the startup's focus on building the platform rather than establishing a visual identity.

2011–2014
Academy for you
A revised wordmark introduced the tagline "Academy for you," positioning the platform as an accessible learning destination. The logo used a conventional sans-serif treatment without a distinctive icon.

Stanley wordmark
Designed by Pablo Stanley
Designer Pablo Stanley created a new wordmark and icon for Udemy in May 2014, introducing rounded letterforms in a light green palette. The redesign dropped the tagline and shifted to a typographic-led identity with a standalone "U" icon.

Zeitung rebrand
Designed by In-house with Duncan Channon; Underware (typography)
Launched in October 2017, this identity was set in Zeitung, a typeface from Dutch foundry Underware, with a custom "U" symbol developed alongside agency Duncan Channon. The curved U letterform was designed so that repeated instances create a continuous connecting line, referencing the iterative nature of learning.

VSA Partners identity
VSA Partners redesigned the Udemy brand in July 2021, replacing the distinctive U symbol with a neutral, all-lowercase wordmark in a geometric sans-serif. The shift moved away from a proprietary icon toward a cleaner typographic system suited to the company's expansion into enterprise training.
