1997–1999
Launch wordmark
Designed by Art. Lebedev Studio
Designed for the official launch of the Yandex search engine on September 23, 1997, the wordmark combined a Cyrillic capital with a Latin-style lowercase, mixing two writing systems into a single compact logotype. The 'Я' letterform set an early visual convention for the brand that carried forward for decades.
1999–2004
Bruskovaya serif
Designed by Art. Lebedev Studio
Art. Lebedev Studio stripped away the boxed framing of earlier iterations, leaving only the letterforms set in a slab-serif face called Bruskovaya. The oversized red 'Я' against black 'ndex' established a color split that became a persistent brand signature.

Egizio Condensed
Designed by Art. Lebedev Studio
Released on April 16, 2004, this version adopted a modified Egizio Condensed typeface, sharpening the proportions of the letterforms and giving the wordmark a taller, more assertive stance. The red-and-black palette remained intact while the letterfit became tighter and more uniform.
2008–2016
Custom typeface
Designed by Art. Lebedev Studio
Launched on August 25, 2008, this identity introduced a proprietary typeface called Yandexfontnew, developed specifically for the brand. The custom letterforms replaced adapted retail type for the first time, and a Latin-script variant was added to support markets beyond Russia.
2016–2021
Yandex Logo Sans
Designed by Ilya Ruderman and Christian Schwartz
Unveiled at Yandex's first design conference on April 23, 2016, the wordmark was set in Yandex Logo Sans, a humanist sans-serif drawn by Ilya Ruderman and Miguel Reyes at Commercial Type, with art direction by Christian Schwartz. The shift from slab serif to sans marked Yandex's effort to carry its identity consistently across digital interfaces and international markets.

Yandex Sans refined
Designed by Ilya Ruderman
Introduced on March 31, 2021, this update kept the red-and-black color split but widened and thickened the letterforms for greater visual weight at small sizes and on digital surfaces. Ruderman refined the Yandex Sans geometry, adding flatter verticals and sharper corners without breaking continuity with the 2016 mark.
